Code of Conduct

SCHOOL RULES

The school rules were drawn up so that the Fundamental Values and Principles for Learners can be realized; thus, the purpose behind the school rules is to:

  • Create and maintain a positive educational environment.
  • State clearly what is regarded as acceptable/unacceptable conduct.
  • Promote educational and learning objectives.

WRITTEN AND APPROVED SUBJECT/CLASS POLICIES, AS WELL AS OTHER SCHOOL POLICIES, FORM PART OF THE CODE OF CONDUCT.

INTRODUCTION

The maintenance of order and the smooth running of the school depend on the knowledge that learners, parents and educators have of the school rules.

LEARNERS OF THIS SCHOOL HAVE TO ABIDE BY THESE RULES AT ALL TIMES AND PARENTS ARE REQUESTED TO SUPPORT THE STAFF IN THEIR APPLICATION OF THE CODE OF CONDUCT.

1. DRESS CODE AND GENERAL APPEARANCE

An appearance inspection will be held during register/ in the quad at the beginning of every school day. Learner’s appearance has to be correct for the entire day. No warnings. Disciplinary steps will be taken immediately.

 THE SCHOOL UNIFORM MUST BE WORN CORRECTLY AT ALL TIMES – OUTSIDE AND INSIDE THE SCHOOL GROUNDS AS WELL AS AFTER SCHOOL HOURS.

Rules

Your school uniform identifies you as a learner from Langenhoven High School. Therefore:

  • Your conduct must be faultless so that you do not bring the good name of the school into disrepute or dishonour.
  • You have to be dressed neatly and correctly at all times when you are in your school uniform. You are an advertisement for the school.
  • You must be ready for an appearance inspection at any time. Do not question this.
  • No warning will be given.
  • The school blazer may not be worn without the school tie or school cravat.
  • The correct, prescribed school uniform is worn during examinations.
  • On Fridays, learners may wear a jacket or other item of clothing received for a sporting or cultural achievement.
  • Langie-wear can be worn on Fridays.
    2. APPEARANCE RULES: BOYS

    2. 1. BOYS’ SUMMER UNIFORM: GRADES 8 – 11

    Rules

    Navy / Grey Trousers

      • Navy / Grey trousers. Navy (Grade 8-10) and Grey (Grade 11-12).
      • Long trousers end below (not above) the ankles.
      • Navy (gr 8-10) / Grey (gr 11-12) short trousers as purchased from the suppliers. Not long trousers cut off above the knees. Short trousers must be 10 cm above the knee (Space between the pants and socks) ONLY SHORT SLEEVE SHIRTS WITH SHORTS.
      • Trousers fit neatly and properly, and do not sag or hang loosely around the hips.
      • No alterations may be made to the side seams so that the trousers fit tightly = NO SKINNY PANTS
      • A learner may NOT alter his school uniform in any way when leaving the school grounds.
      • A standard, plain black belt with a plain buckle. No wide belts or decorative buckles.
      • No seam in the front of the trousers to be sowed in.

      A short-sleeved navy and white school shirt

      • A short-sleeved navy and white check school shirt.
      • The shirt is always tucked in neatly.
      • If a T-shirt/ vest is worn under the shirt, it must not be visible. (V-neck only).
      • The top (collar) button must be undone, and it is the only button that may be undone. If the tie is worn with the short-sleeved shirt, the top button must be fastened.
      • No buttons may be cut off to show extra chest.

      Black school shoes

      • Plain, black, lace-up shoes. (School shoes or Grasshoppers.) Suede shoes, moccasin type shoes or sharp pointed shoes are NOT allowed.
      • Shoelaces must be black and must be laced correctly and tied properly.
      • NO ornaments, decorations, etc. may be attached to the shoes.

      School socks

      • Navy socks (when wearing navy trousers (gr 8-10)/ grey (gr 11-12) socks (when wearing grey trousers).
      • When wearing short grey trousers only grey socks that reach the knee must be worn.

      School jersey/ drimac/ blazer

      • May be worn in summer and in winter.
      • Sleeves may not be pushed up towards the elbows or cover the hands.
      • The jersey/ drimac/ blazer may not be tied around the waist.
      • The zip of the drimac may not be pulled up to the top.
      • The jersey/ drimac/ blazer may not be tucked in.

      The school pullover

      • May be worn in summer and in winter.
      • May not be worn over the jersey.
      • The pullover may not be tucked in.

      School cap

      • Only the school cap may be worn before and after school, or during break. It is not to be worn inside a classroom, at assembly or on the corridors while changing classes.
      • Nothing may be written or drawn on the outside of the cap, or on the inside of the peak – only your name may be written.
      • Scarves and beanies are not allowed with summer uniform.

       All appearance transgressions will be documented by the Educator/ Discipline Office on the last page of the diary.

      2.2        BOYS’ SUMMER UNIFORM: GRADE 12

      Rules

      The same as for the rest of the school, except:

      • The matric school tie with the matric pin must be worn every day.
      • The matric pullover may be worn every day.

       

      2.3        BOYS’ WINTER UNIFORM: GRADE 8-11                                 

      Rules

      The same as for summer, except for the following:

      • Long-sleeved navy and white check school shirt.
      • NO shorts
      • The navy school tie is compulsory.
      • The school pullover, jersey, drimac and/ or blazer.
      • The navy school scarf and/ or school beanie may be worn.
      • The beanie may be worn before school, on the corridors when classes are changing, during break or after school It is NOT worn inside a classroom or at assembly.
      • Although preferable for summer, the school cap may be worn – before or after school, or during break.
      • If a vest or extra clothes are worn under the school uniform for warmth, it may not be visible (v-neck only).

      All appearance transgressions will be documented by the Educator/ Discipline Office on the back page of the diary.

       

      2.4        BOYS’ WINTER UNIFORM: GRADE 12

      1. Rules

      The same as for the rest of the school, except for:

      • The matric pin and the matric school tie.
      • The white matric school scarf and/or pullover may be worn; they are not compulsory.
      • The matric jacket may be worn but is not compulsory.
      3. APPEARANCE: BOYS’ HAIR AND BEARD

      Rules

      • Natural short, tidy hair only.
      • The hair must be of an even length all over the head and may not be longer than 1cm from the scalp when it is combed out.
      • No coloring, perming, gelling, or plaiting of hair.
      • No substance (not even water) may be used to give a gel appearance.
      • A spiky, uncombed appearance is not permissible.
      • Sideburns may not extend past the middle of the ears.
      • NO patterns and no steps, no paths may be shaved into the hair.
      • NO dreadlocks.
      • NO comb overs.
      • The face must be clean-shaven. No stubble may be visible – not even under the chin.
      • The eyebrows may NOT be shaved into a different shape and no pattern may be cut or shaved into the eyebrows.
      • Learners must shave at home. A LEARNER THAT SHAVES AT SCHOOL: WILL SHAVE AT A FEE THAT WILL INCREASE BY THE NUMBER OF TIMES THAT HE SHAVES AT SCHOOL.
      4. APPEARANCE RULES: GIRLS

      4.1        GIRLS’ SUMMER UNIFORM: GRADE 8 – 11

      Rules

      Navy Pleated Skirt

      • When in a standing position, the skirt may not be shorter than 12 cm from the line at the back of the knee.
      • The pleats may not be extended or taken in to change the appearance of the skirt.
      • The side seams may not be taken in to make the skirt fit tightly, ski-pants must be worn with skirts.
      • There must be a 2cm allowance at the seams at least, so that the skirt is not skintight.

      A short-sleeved navy and white school shirt.

      • If a t-shirt/ vest is worn under the shirt, it must not be visible. Underwear must be worn under the shirt and not be visible.

      Black school shoes

      • Standard black lace-up shoes, or with a strap across the bridge of the foot.
      • Shoes laces must be laced correctly and tied properly.
      • NO ornaments, decorations, etc. may be attached to the shoes.

      White or Navy School socks

      • Plain, Navy (Grade 8-10) and White (Grade 11-12) SHORT socks only.
      • Must be folded over to just above the ankle bone.

      School jersey/ drimac/ blazer

      • Sleeves may not be pushed up towards the elbows.
      • The jersey/ drimac/ blazer may not be tied around the waist.
      • The zip of the drimac may not be pulled up to the top.
      • The jersey/ drimac/ blazer may not be tucked in or tied up like a crop top.

      The school pullover

      • May be worn in summer and in winter.
      • May not be worn over the jersey.
      • The pullover may not be tucked in.

      Navy school trousers

      • May be worn in summer and in winter.
      • No alterations may be made to the trousers to make them fit tightly, e.g., side seams may not be taken in.
      • Must fit fairly loosely, but neatly; they may not be skintight.
      • Navy socks must be worn with the trousers.

      School cap

      • The school cap may be worn only before or after school, or during break. It may not be worn during assembly, in a classroom or in the corridors while changing classes.
      • Nothing may be written or drawn on the outside of the cap, or on the inside of the peak – only your name may be written.

      4.2        GIRLS: SUMMER UNIFORM. GRADE 12

      Rules

      The same uniform as the rest of the school, except:

      • A navy matric tie, with the matric pin, is worn throughout the year.
      • Only matt blackmail stockings/pantyhose OR short white socks must be worn with the skirt.
      • NO torn pantyhose or white socks under the pantyhose.
      • The matric pullover may be worn.

      4.3        GIRLS’ WINTER UNIFORM: GRADE 8 – 11

      Rules

      • Navy school skirt or navy trousers. (As for summer)
      • Long-sleeved navy and white check school shirt, with school tie.
      • Navy knee-high school socks are worn with the skirt.
      • Navy socks are worn with trousers.
      • School pullover, school jersey, school drimac and/or school blazer.
      • Standard black school shoes – as for summer.
      • Navy school scarf and/or school beanie may be worn.
      • The beanie may be worn before school, on the corridors when classes are changing, during break or after school It is not worn inside a classroom or at assembly.
      • Although preferable for summer, the school cap may be worn – before or after school, or during break.
      • The school blazer must be worn with a tie at all times.

      4.4        GIRLS’ WINTER UNIFORM: GRADE 12

      Rules

      The same as for summer.

      • Only matt blackmail stockings/pantyhose or navy knee-high school socks must be worn with the skirt.
      • The white matric school scarf and/or pullover may be worn.
      5. APPEARANCE: GIRLS’ HAIR

      Rules

      • Hair volume must be appropriate with a school uniform; hair should not obscure the view of other learners.
      • Hair must be thoroughly combed with no knots at the ends.
      • Loose hair may not extend past the bottom of the collar.
      • No loose hair strings or fringes in front of the ears, no “baby hair”.
      • No hair strings at the back of the head that are tucked in under the collar.
      • The fringe may not touch or extend past the eyebrows.
      • Ponytails, plaits, and dreadlocks are tied against the head. All the hair must be fastened. Only ONE ponytail at the back of the head, or TWO at the sides. ALL hair must be tied.
      • Ponytails, plaits, and dreadlocks may not be longer than 20cm from the shoulder.
      • Hair accessories may be black, navy, or white only.
      • Accessories are plain and functional: Nothing too flashy or fancy, e.g., big flowers.
      • Hair must remain its natural color and colored streaks/highlights are NOT allowed.
      • Hair may not be colored or permed for any event or occasion – no exceptions.
      • NO gel or any other substance that gives a gel appearance.
      • NO steps or patterns may be shaved or cut into the hair. Hair must be of an even length throughout the head.
      • If plaited, the whole head must be plaited and can only be plaited in straight lines starting at the hairline going backwards or upwards; NO zig-zag plaits.
      • NO buns on the crown of the head.
      • The eyebrows may NOT be shaven into a different shape and no pattern may be cut or shaved into the eyebrows.NO EYEBROWS “LAMINATION”
      • NO BRAZILLIAN WOOL OR HAIR PIECE EXTENSIONS.
      • NO WEAVES; NO WIGS.

       

      6. APPEARANCE: GENERAL

      6.1.       NAILS

      Rules

      • Girls and boys wear their nails short and neat: nails are not visible when the hands are held palm upwards.
      • The pinkie nail may not be longer than the rest of the fingernails on any hand for boys and girls.
      • Girls may wear colorless, transparent nail polish.
      • Nails may not be grown for any competition or event – no exceptions.
      • Grade 12 girls may let their nails grow for the matric dance – two weeks in advance.
        • However, the nails must be short and natural again before the learner returns to school.
      • No artificial nails may be worn to school.

       

      6.2.       JEWELLERY (BOYS AND GIRLS)

      Rules

      • No chains, beads, necklaces, or keys on a chain around the neck, not even under the shirt.
      • No rings whatsoever.
      • No bracelets or sweat bands.
      • Religious or traditional bracelets: Parents apply to the SGB in writing for permission to deviate from the school code of conduct.
      • No studs/rings in the tongue, face, or any other part of the body where they are visible.
      • Ordinary, plain watches may be worn.
      • Plain/small (1cm) gold or silver earrings/ plain small gold or silver spherical studs – permissible for girls only
      • No attachments or gemstones.
      • Only one stud/ring per ear in the middle of the ear lobe.

       

      6.3.       MAKE-UP/TATTOOS (BOYS AND GIRLS)

      Rules 

      • No make-up whatsoever may be worn to school. This includes
        any substance that makes the lips shiny or changes the
               colour of the lips or eye shadow.
      • All traces of make-up must be removed before coming to
        school.
      • Following items must be used to cover tattoos: bandage,
        medical plaster, hand wrapping.
      • No visible drawings may be made anywhere on the body.
      • Eye Wear: No coloured lenses/ fake glasses or sunglasses
        are allowed.

       

      6.4.       APPEARANCE/CONDUCT IN PUBLIC

       Rules 

      • If a learner is in school uniform or sport clothes or can in any way be associated with the school, his/her conduct must be impeccable.
      • NO drinking of any alcoholic substances and NO drunken behaviour.
      • NO smoking/vaping of any substances.
      • NO vulgar, coarse language.
      • NO bad manners or rudeness of any kind to any member of the public.
      • NO kissing, cuddling / hugging, or holding hands in public.
      • Learners who make use of public transport must behave impeccably.
      • Inappropriate conduct must be reported as soon as possible.
      • A learner’s conduct may never embarrass the school or bring its name in disrepute.
      • A learner may not alter his/her school uniform in any way when leaving the school grounds.

       Consequences

      • Internal disciplinary hearing depending on the severity of the case.
      • Incorrect items worn with uniform are confiscated immediately and kept until the end of the term. (See demerit list for stipulated amount payable per item.)
      • A learner will not participate in any school event, if not dressed properly.

       All appearance transgressions will be documented by the Educator/ Discipline Office on the back page of the diary.

       

      6.5.       CLOTHES FOR SCHOOL EVENTS

       Rules 

      • No fixed rule can be made: it depends on the event or function. Learners are informed about correct dress code.
      • Extra classes must be attended in school uniform.
      • Learners/parents/guests may not embarrass the school/others with inappropriate clothes.
      • EC/ RCL members do duty in school uniform.
      • Merit award function: The full winter uniform must be worn.

       Consequences 

      • Demerit for every appearance rule that is transgressed.
      • Incorrect items worn with uniform are confiscated immediately and kept until the end of the term. (See demerit list for stipulated amount payable per item.)
      • A learner will not participate in any school event, if not dressed properly.

       All appearance transgressions will be documented by the Educator/ Discipline Office on the back page of the diary.

       

       6.6.       LANGIE WEAR

       Rules 

      • May be worn every Friday, unless communicated otherwise.
      • Navy school golf shirt and school bag.
      • Plain, neat, navy, or black long denim jeans. No “WAX” jeans or cargo pants.
      • No pleather trousers (imitation leather)
      • NO shabby, torn jeans or jeans that are unravelling at the seams.
      • NOT having an identifiable black/navy jean
      • The jeans fit neatly.
      • Ordinary, standard sport shoes/tekkies/sneakers/pumps OR school shoes.
      • NOT with loose laces.
      • If a learner does not have the correct Langie clothes, the prescribed school uniform must be worn.
      • All other appearance rules still apply.

       Consequences 

      • Demerit if Langie wear is incorrect.
      • Learner will not attend classes if part uniform / part Langie wear is worn.

       All appearance transgressions will be documented by the Educator/ Discipline Office on the back page of the diary.

       

       6.7.       SPORTS CLOTHES

       Rules 

      Correct attire and underwear for all sport activities must be worn.

       6.7.1 Training clothes 

      • Loose, comfortable clothes, e.g., T-shirts, tracksuits, shorts and running shoes.
      • Training clothes must be appropriate for the occasion and never be revealing, tight or indecent.
      • No school uniform to be worn for practice and cross country.

       6.7.2 Athletics and cross country 

      • Navy school athletics vest and navy shorts bought by parents/guardian.
      • Spikes and/or running shoes must be bought by parents/guardian.

       6.7.3 Hockey (boys and girls) 

      • Navy school hockey skirt and hockey skirt bought by parents/guardian.
      • Navy rugby socks with yellow stripes.
      • Hockey boots/sport shoes bought by parents/guardian.
      • School tracksuits may be worn for events (can be bought at suppliers)

        6.7.4 Netball 

      • Navy school netball shirt and netball skirt/dress bought by parents/guardian.
      • White socks and sport shoes.
      • No school shoes on the netball courts.
      • School tracksuits may be worn for events.

        6.7.5 Rugby 

      • Rugby jersey to be bought at suppliers to be bought by parents/guardian.
      • Rugby boots, socks and navy shorts must be bought by parents/guardian.

        6.7.6 Soccer (boys and girls) 

      • Soccer jersey and socks bought to be bought by parents/guardian at suppliers.
      • Soccer boots and socks bought by parent / guardian.

       Consequences 

      • Demerit for incorrect clothes.
      • No learner will play a match without wearing the prescribed clothes.
      • Repeated disregard of rules – player will be removed from all sporting events/activities.

       All appearance transgressions will be documented by the Educator/ Discipline Office on the back page of the diary.

       

       6.8.       CIVVIES

       Rules 

      • May be worn only when permission is granted by the SMT.
      • Must be neat and appropriate for school.
      • Girls’ tops may never be too tight or too revealing. No cleavages or tummies may be seen!
      • Underwear must be appropriate.
      • Skirts and shorts (When in a standing position, the skirt or shorts may not be shorter than 12 cm from the line at the back of the knee).
      • May not be too short, tight, or revealing.
      • No T-shirts or items of clothing with offensive or religious, political, and sexual orientated slogans or images.
      • No body piercings/studs for boys and girls.
      • Girls may not wear T-shirts/ vests that show their underwear.
      • NO crop tops are ALLOWED at all.
      • Boys may not wear sleeveless T-shirts that look like vests.
      • No mixing of civvies and school uniform.

       Consequences 

      • Unsuitable, revealing clothes: Learner must remain in an appointed classroom until the school closes.

       All appearance transgressions will be documented by the Educator/ Discipline Office on the back page of the diary. For any continuous transgressions relating to any of the appearance rules @3/5/7-day suspension as well as an internal/external hearing will be implemented

      7. ABSENTEEISM

      Rules

      • A letter of absence must be given to the register teacher on the day the learner returns.
      • A doctor’s certificate must be handed in for absences for everyday the learner is absent.
      • For every day that a learner writes an official task/test the learner must hand in a doctor’s letter.
      • Arrangements must be made with all subject teachers to catch up with missed work/tests within 2 days.
      • Note: A phone call from a parent does not replace the letter of absence. We must have written proof that the parent is aware of the child’s absence.
      • A learner that is absent without a medical certificate for 10 consecutive days will be deregistered according to policy.

       

      First Transgression

      • Demerit
      • Absenteeism without valid reason – parent / guardian phoned.

       

      Second Transgression

      • Demerit
      • Without valid reason.
      • Parent / guardian to meeting with register teacher.

       

      Third Transgression

      • Demerit
      • Internal hearing.

       

      Consequences 

      • Not adhering to procedure will lead to a meeting with parents/guardian.
      • Then can escalate to suspension and/or an internal or external hearing.
      8. APPOINTMENTS (DOCTORS, DENTIST, ID, LICENCE, ETC)

      Rules 

      • Appointments must be made for after school hours.
      • The parent’s and doctor’s/ place of work phone numbers must be included in the letter.
      • Exceptional cases may get special permission if a letter from the parents is presented in time, the parents must come and fetch the learner and sign him/her out at reception. (No taxi, uber, etc.)

       

      Consequences 

      • External disciplinary hearing for leaving the school without permission.
      9. ILLNESS/INJURIES

      Rules 

      • A learner who falls ill or gets hurt reports to the receptionist (Ms Moche).
      • The receptionist will phone the parents to collect the learner at school.
      • The learner DOES NOT phone his/her parents himself/herself.
      • The learner will be allocated to a sick room to wait under supervision for the parent / guardian to pick him/her up.
      • If the parent / guardian cannot collect the learner, and if he/she feels better, Ms Moche may decide to send the learner back to class.
      • No medication may be given to learners.
      • All medication must be handed in and collected from the receptionist only, at the beginning and end of the day for learners who needs medication.
      • No medication may be in a learner’s possession.
      • Doctors/parents letter must accompany all medication.

       

      Consequences 

      • Demerit
      • Not adhering to the procedure will lead to a meeting with the parent / guardian.
      • If medication is found in the learner’s possession; it will be confiscated and handed back only on parent’s confirmation.
      • Should a learner phone their parent; PHONE WILL BE CONFISCATED IMMEDIATELY!

      10. LATECOMING

      Rules 

      10.1 Late for school

      • Learners must be inside the school gates before the first bell rings in the morning – 07:20.
      • Learners access the school grounds using the gate at the turnstiles only.
      • No learners are allowed to enter or leave the school premises using the main gate.
      • Learners must have an explanatory note from the parent / guardian if a serious problem has caused him/her to be late.
      • Learners must enter the school premises immediately after being dropped off.
      • Persistent latecomers’ learner will attend a disciplinary hearing and can be given a transfer letter to attend a school closer to home.

       

      Consequences 

      First transgression:

      • Demerit and SMS will be sent to parent / guardian.

       

      Second transgression

      • Demerit, SMS to parent / guardian with a final warning.

       

      Third transgression:

      • Demerit, SMS to parent / guardian informing them that learner will not attend school until parent / guardian see SMT.

       If above procedure was followed and late coming doesn’t improve learners will not attend every day that they are late for school.

       

      10.2. Late for class

      • When changing classes: Learners must be inside the classroom and seated after the second bell has rung.
      • After break: Learners must be inside the classroom and seated after the third bell has rung.

         

        Consequences 

        • Subject/class teacher demerit learner.
        • Learner must sit on the floor when late for class.

         

        First Transgression

        • Demerit
        • Learner sits on floor.

         

        Second Transgression

        • Demerit
        • If in the same class, break detention to be arranged by educator.

         

        Third Transgression

        • Demerit
        • If in the same class meeting with parent / guardian to be arranged.

         

        11. CONDUCT AT SCHOOL OR PUBLIC EVENTS

        Rules

        When attending an event:

        • The school of conduct must be adhered to.
        • Be punctual and stay until the end. Arriving late or leaving before the end is rude and inconsiderate.
        • Limit fidgeting and talking to the absolute minimum.
        • Show appreciation by giving sincere applause.
        • A learner’s conduct may never embarrass the school or bring its name in disrepute.
        • NO alcohol or other intoxicated beverages.
        • NO cigarettes/ vapes may be in a learner’s possession and no smoking of cigarettes or any other substances.
        • NO kissing, cuddling/ hugging, sitting/lying on each other laps or holding hands.
        • The same rules apply to the learner’s companions.

         

        When participating in an event:

        • Participants must attend all practices, performances, and matches.
        • A letter from the parent is submitted if attendance is impossible.

         

        Consequences 

        • Learner fails to attend a practice (sport or culture): Demerit.
        • Learner doesn’t show up for a match/performance – He/she will be addressed by the principal and relevant coach/ Removed form activities.
        • Depending on seriousness of misconduct, transgression may be escalated to an internal/external Hearing.
        • Learner’s privileges revoked.
        12. CLASSROOMS

        Rules

         

        • No learner leaves the classroom without permission; the red board or permission in the diary. has to be given by the subject teacher of the period.
        • No learner/s may be inside a classroom without supervision of a learner.
        • All classrooms must be kept neat and tidy.
        • No writing on the walls or any furniture.
        • Learners are not allowed to use any electrical outlets/charge phones etc.
        • Only one learner at a time may leave the classroom.
        • Vandalism or Graffiti, Not allowed at all.

         

        1. Consequences

         

        • Demerit
        • Verbal warning documented in diary on relevant day.
        • Transgression of above rules will lead to a demerit , red notice that will be pasted in the back of the diary.
        • Vandalism graffiti, learner responsible will clean/sand/wash or fix the damage. Parents liable for the costs.
        13. CHANGING OF CLASSES

        Rules

         

        • Learners walk briskly, quietly and in rows; keep to the left.
        • Learners must be inside the next classroom when the second bell rings.
        • Learners line up and enter in an orderly manner, on the teacher’s instruction.
        • If the classroom is locked, learners wait quietly, in two rows, while the RCL member makes inquiries.
        • At the end of a period, learners pack up according to the class policy and leave quietly and quickly for the next class.
        • The stairs must be used in such a way that no obstruction occurs.
        • No eating or drinking while changing classes.
        • NB! It is common courtesy to allow teachers first priority when moving on the corridors or staircases.
        • No shouting, singing or dancing is allowed when changing classes.

        14. CORRIDORS

        Rules

         

        • Learners may not run, sing, shout or cause any disruption on the corridors.
        • No eating or drinking on the corridors while changing classes.
        • Learners may not be on the corridors before school, during break or after school.

         

        Consequences

         

        • Demerit for undisciplined conduct.
        • Demerit if a learner is outside the classroom without proof of permission.
        • Any food or drinks are confiscated immediately and thrown away.
        • If two learners from the same class are outside together at the same time, disciplinary action will follow.
        • Continues transgression can lead to a suspension and or hearing.
        15. ADMINISTRATION OFFICE/ E-LIBRARY/LIBRARY

        Rules

         

        • Learner must have proof of permission before entering the admin office.
        • Learner must bring his/her diary along for identification.
        • No more than two learners in the office at a time. The rest must queue outside.
        • No copying during class time: Before school, during break, after school only.

         

        Consequences

         

        • Demerit for not lining up / crowding at the counter.
        • Demerit if in admin office without proof of permission, or without diary.
        • Demerit for rudeness towards admin staff.
        • Continues transgression can lead to a suspension and or hearing.
        16. SCHOOL HALL

        Rules

         

        • Apart from the Sound Committee members, the hall may not be used or entered if a teacher is not present.
        • Apart from the Sound Committee members, learners may not use the loudspeaker system or other equipment.

           

          Consequences

           

          • Demerit for using/being in the hall without the supervision of a teacher.
          • Continues transgression can lead to a suspension and or hearing.
          17. SCHOOL GROUNDS

          Rules

           

          • Must be kept clean, tidy and litter free.
          • Learners may not damage any school property.
          • Learners may not climb trees, hang from branches, walk in flowerbeds, sit on flower containers, climb on to roofs, sit/walk on railings/edgings/corridor walls/dust bins.

           

          Senior playgrounds: (Grades 10, 11 and 12)

           

          • Areas between the two school buildings.
          • All other areas of the school grounds are prohibited during break.
          • Learners may not go near the fence or school gates during break.

           

          LEARNERS MAY NOT PLAY ANY BALL GAMES BETWEEN THE TWO SCHOOL

          BUILDINGS, IN THE AREA EXTENDING TO THE WEST FROM THE SENIOR TUCKSHOP.

           

          Junior playgrounds: (Grades 8 and 9)

           

          • The area between the gym hall and the fence next to Paul Kruger Street.
          • Learners may not go near the fence or school gates during break.
          • All other areas of the school grounds are prohibited during break.
          • Do not play ball games near cars, windows or where anything can be damaged.

           

          Consequences

           

          • Vandalism: disciplinary hearing.
          • Parents are billed for any damage caused by child.
          • Disciplinary action will follow if a learner is found outside their designated playground during break.
          • Continues transgression can lead to a suspension and or hearing.
          18. SCHOOL DIARY
          • Is school property and must be treated as such.
          • MUST BE AT SCHOOL AND IN A LEARNER’S POSSESSION EVERY DAY.
          • Must stay covered with plastic/dc fix.
          • Must be used to write down homework only and not for any other writing or drawings.
          • Must contain the learner’s daily time table (inside front cover)
          • Has to be replaced immediately (after 5 days) if it is lost, stolen or badly damaged. R60.00.

           

          Consequences

           

          • Demerit and a yellow slip has to be purchased at a fee (R5.00) for every day that a learner’s diary is not at school.
          19. SCHOOL BAGS/SPORT BAGS

          Rules

           

          • The prescribed Langenhoven High School bag and sports bag only. No other bags may be used.
          • The school bag is used daily for academic purposes; the sports bag for sport, not for books.
          • Only the owner’s name and class may be written on the outside.
          • No drawings, names, slogans etc. may appear on the outside of the school bag or sport bag.
          • No decorations or accessories may be attached to the school or sport bags.
          • A learner’s school bag/sport bag must be in his/her possession at all times.
          • School/sport bags must have the owner’s name clearly printed on the outside.
          • Money or other valuable items may be handed in at the office for safekeeping.
          • If a bag is torn or damaged, it has to be shown to the discipline office , with a letter from the parents, so that temporary permission can be granted for using another bag and arrangements can be made for a new bag. Bags must be replaced immediately
          • The school logo may not be used in any way or design on a new bag that was not issued by the school.

           

           Consequences

           

          • Incorrect school bag without letter from parent will be confiscated immediately and the books will be placed in a plastic bag.
          • Incorrect item is confiscated immediately and kept until the end of the term. (see demerit list for stipulated amount payable per item.)
          • Learner’s privileges revoked.
          20. SAFETY AND TRANSPORT

          Rules

           

          • Learners may never cross Paul Kruger Street; ONLY by using the subway.
          • Learners, especially girls, should not walk alone from the school to the city or vice versa, it’s a dangerous area.
          • A learner may never be closer than 2 m from a teacher’s car.
          • LEARNERS WHO HAVE NOT BEEN FETCHED BY THEIR PARENTS WITHIN 30 MINUTES AFTER A SCHOOL FUNCTION / SPORTS EVENT WILL BE TAKEN TO THE PRETORIA CENTRAL POLICE STATION IN PRETORIUS STREET FOR SAFETY REASONS.
          • Learners may not linger outside the fence, or socialize in front of the school; learners must enter the school grounds immediately.
          • At the end of the day, learners must leave the school grounds within 20 minutes, unless they are seated in the after-school demarcated area. Learners who have extra class, detention or extra-curricular activities must be at their locations within 10 minutes.
          • For safety reasons, learners must go home immediately and not hang around outside the school.

           

            Learners who have cars:

             

            • All the regulations of the Road Transportation Act concerning motorbikes and cars apply to vehicles on the school grounds, too.
            • A learner who drives to school by car must get written permission from one of the Deputy Principals to park inside the school gates, on school premises.
            • Learners’ cars must be parked on the junior playgrounds, at the eastern edge, near the fence.
            • A fee of R60 per month must be paid in advance by the learner who parks on the school premises. (Receipts must be submitted to Mr Cavanagh).
            • ONLY the owner of the vehicle may in or around the car.
            • A permission sticker and letter will be issued by Mr Cavanagh.
            • No learner may go to his/her own or anybody else’s car during school hours.
            • A learner must drive very carefully on the school grounds.
            • The volume of a learner’s car radio must be turned off when entering school premises.
            • A learner must not leave any valuable possessions or books in his/her car.
            • The school will not accept responsibility for any vehicle that is stolen/damaged.

             

            Consequences

             

            • Transgression of the above rules can lead to suspension and/or a hearing.

            21. TOILETS

            Rules

             

            • The toilets should be used before school, during break or after school.
            • Senior learners use the senior toilets and junior learners the junior toilets only.
            • During class time, a learner must get permission in the diary to visit the toilet.
            • When learners are changing classes between periods, they may not use the toilets but get permission from the next class teacher.
            • Only ONE learner at a time may get permission to go to the toilets.
            • Only ONE learner at a time may be behind the closed door of a cubicle.
            • No crowding, playing, discussions, eating, drinking or any other activity in transgression of the code of conduct is allowed.

            • Consequences

               

              • Demerit for using the toilets without proof of permission in diary.
              • Demerit for using the incorrect toilets during breaks.
              • Parents will be phoned for a meeting with the SMT.

              22. TUCK SHOP

              NO LEARNERS AT THE BACK OF TUCKSSHOP

               

              Rules

               

              • Learners may use the tuck shop before school, during break or after school only.
              • Learners must be well-behaved and considerate of others.
              • ONLY learners standing in a queue will be helped.
              • When the first bell rings to indicate the beginning of school or end of break, learners must leave immediately and go to their classes. When the second bell rings they must be inside the classroom. Learners who are not inside the classroom and seated by the third bell are late.
              • The area around the tuck shop must be kept tidy and litter free.
              • At the tuck shop stand in a line , your without pushing , shaving, bullying and shouting
              • Place your order respectfully and wait in line for your order.
              • DO NOT ASK LEARNERS IN FRONT OF THE LINE TO BUY FOR YOU
              • DO NOT ASK ANY LEARNER FOR MONEY OR FOOD.

                • No food, snacks, water or other drinks are allowed in the corridors, hall or classrooms.
                • Eating and drinking may be done before school, during break or after school only.
                • Eating and drinking may be done on the playgrounds only.
                • Wrappers, cans, etc. must be thrown into the rubbish bins provided.
                • PLEASE DO NOT LITTER. Pick up your own litter.
                • No learner may walk with food/any open drink in the corridors or the classroom.
                • All hot flasks, water bottles, energy drinks or alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited.

                  • Immediate confiscation of any items found in learner’s

                  • Learner referred to Social Worker for external

                  • Learner suspended for five (5) days and an external hearing

                  • Learner’s privileges remain

                   

                  ANY FURTHER TRANSGRESSIONS IN THIS REGARD LEARNER WILL BE SUSPENDED FOR SEVEN (7) DAYS, AWAITING A SECOND EXTERNAL HEARING (EXPULSION REQUEST)

                  36. ELECTRONIC DEVICES OF ANY KIND (CELLPHONES, SMART WATCHES, TABLETS, LAPTOPS, I-PODS, EARPHONES) ETC.

                   Rules

                   

                  • NO CELLPHONES ALLOWED ON SCHOOL

                  • Should a cell phone be used, visible, ringing, alarm or notifications be heard it will be confiscated

                  • Learners may not call their parents to come and fetch them when they are ill, Phones will be

                  • A cell phone is not a calculator and may not be used as

                  • No electronic devices of any kind may be brought to school g., smart watches, cellphones, earphones, I-pods etc.

                  • When a learner is asked to hand over a cell phone , he/she must do so immediately. NO ARGUING.

                  • The electronic device may not be handed to another learner to try and hide

                  • The SIM card/memory card may not be removed from any device when it is

                  • If a cell phone is used during a test or examination, the incident will be regarded as an exam irregularity and the device will be

                  • Learners must adhere to the School Social Media /Cyber (point 37)

                   

                  Consequences

                  • If a learner is found in possession of any electronic device during a test or exam it will be regarded as an irregularity and a hearing will be

                  • The electronic device is confiscated immediately for 7 days + R100 impound fee to be

                  • The electronic device is sealed in a plastic bag which must be dated and signed by the teacher/learner and the condition of the device

                  • The sealed electronic devices is locked away in the safe by the admin

                  • The electronic devices file must be completed by the relevant

                  • The learner must collect the electronic device from the administrative assistant after school of day 7 with proof of

                  • Verbal warning documented in diary on relevant day

                  • Learner’s privileges

                   

                  Second Transgression

                  • Demerit, parent/guardian

                  • The electronic device is confiscated for 6 months (180 days) + R200 impound fee to be

                  • Same procedure as first

                  • The electronic device must be collected by the parents – a letter will not be The electronic device will remain in the safe until the parent can collect it.

                  Third Transgression

                   

                  • Same procedure as first and second

                  • The electronic device will be confiscated until the end of the year + R300 impound fee to be

                  • The electronic device must be collected by the parents – a letter will not be The electronic device will remain in the safe until the parent can collect it.

                  ANY FURTHER TRANSGRESSIONS IN THIS REGARD LEARNER WILL BE SUSPENDED FOR THREE (3) DAYS, AWAITING AN EXTERNAL HEARING.

                  IF A LEARNER GIVES THE TEACHER OR EC/RCL MEMBER ANY PROBLEMS OR ARGUMENTS, OR TALKS BACK OR IS CHEECKY WHEN THE ELECTRONIC DEVICE IS CONFISCATED, IT WILL BE CONFISCATED FOR THE YEAR, EVEN IF IT IS THE FIRST TRANSGRESSION.

                  37. SOCIAL MEDIA (WHATSAPP, FACEBOOK, INSTAGRAM, TWITTER, TIK TOK, ECT).

                  Rules

                  • No learner may post an image or video of himself/herself or another person on any social media (Popi act)

                  • No image or symbol related/referring to the school may be

                  • School social media policy

                  38. THEFT.

                  • No learner has the right to take anything form any other person that is not

                  • No learner should borrow or lend out his/her stuff to other

                  • No learner has the right to speak on behalf of someone else in order to borrow/lend or take something that is not his/hers.

                  39. SEXUAL MISCONDUCT/INAPPROPIATE PHYSICAL CONTACT OR BEHAVIOUR.

                  Rules

                  • No sexual misconduct allowed on school grounds or in school uniform

                  • NO sexual harassment of any

                  • NO inappropriate behaviour, no touching, holding hands, hugging, kissing or any form of public display of affection (PDA), lying or sitting on each other

                   

                  Consequences

                  • Based on seriousness of

                  • Demerit, parent/guardian

                  • Learner referred to Social Worker for intervention/external

                  • Learner suspended for three (3), Five (5) or seven (7)

                  • External hearing

                  • Learner’s privileges

                   

                  ANY FURTHER TRANSGRESSIONS IN THIS REGARD LEARNER WILL BE SUS- PENDED FOR AS LONG AS DISTRICT ALLOWS, WHILE THE SCHOOL AWAITS FEEDBACK FROM HEAD OFFICE.
