History

We are proud of the school’s achievements and good reputation that have been built up and maintained over many years.

  • The school was founded in 1895 as De West Eind School with DUTCH as LOLT
  • In 1914 the LOLT was changed to AFRIKAANS
  • In 1936 the name of the school changed to Langenhoven High School named after the Afrikaans icon and writer of the South African anthem at the time: CJ Langenhoven
  • As the learner numbers increased the government had to look for new premises and during 1957 the new premises opposite the zoo was occupied
  • Until 1994, Langenhoven High School, was a Model C school that admitted Afrikaans speaking learners only
  • In 1995 the school became a fully racially integrated double/parallel medium school
  • In 2010 the school became an English medium school with Afrikaans as First Additional Language
  • Currently, there are between 1450 – 1500 learners at the school and the staff consists of 70 teachers, 2 Social Workers, 8 Administrative Assistants, 2 Terrain Managers and 13 General Assistan
